PREPARATION AND INSTRUCTIONS:
This social game requires a game plan, a dice and a man for each player. Each player throws a cube and walks in direction, which is determined by numbers 1 - 50. Marked fields hide the story. When you get on a marked field, read what you have to do in the text below. The game is very simple and can be played by everyone. We hope you´ll enjoy it and have a very good time. Good luck with the game.
Marked fields:
5 - An Australian farmer is grateful for your help with harvest of vine and rice. It was a really hard work and he was very close to give it up. You have appeared in the right time He´s going to take you to the field number 7.
10 - You are attacked by the pirates. They´re horrible and terrify all the crew. Their attack is very intensive and they damage your ship. You have to return back to the start to repair it.
15 - You have just helped a little Chinese in the misery. A group of a teenagers tried to steal him money, but as they saw you surrounded by your friends and running towards them, they run away. As a reward you have a chance to throw once more.
22 - An old gipsy woman foretold your future from your hand a recommended you the accomodation by the sea. She said you should take a rest for some time. You´re going to walk on field number 23 where you´ll be waiting for one round.
26 - You have been infected by a mysterious illness. You have to wait until the natives cure you. It´s a question of some time. And it won´t be short. Wait until you throw number 1 on the dice and then continue according to the rules.
36 - You have saved a chief of Indians from claws of a tribe of wariors. As a reward you got a fast and incredibly relentless horse which can take you to any place in a very short time. Throw again.
42 - You have met many people with different culture traditions in America. You are so interested in their habits, that you have made a decision that you will stay here for some time and learn more about them. It´s really exciting to meet new people and learn about new culture. Don´t throw once.
46 - You feel cold. The wind is freezing and the cold penetrates to all your body. It´s dangerous so you have to make a decision. The only thing you can do is going back to your American friends for some winter equipment to number 42.
49 - You are hungry. Eskimos are friendly and provide you some meal. You are getting energy and power for the next way. Now you feel really good and nothing is going to stop you now. The finish is approaching quickly and you know exactly how close you are. Now your time is here. Your opponents can just turn green with envy. You have won the game. A journey around the world has just come to the end. Go to number 50.
Other suggestion:
Children can make up detailed story when being on certain field and comment on it with the other players.
TOPIC:
Masks
AIM:
Getting to know different countries in the world
AGE OF STUDENTS:
11 - 14
NUMBER OF STUDENTS:
all the group of about 15
DURATION:
45 minutes
PREPARATION:
facial masks ( must not be racial different)
DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:
- Representatives of each race will put the masks on their faces.
- They will introduce their country, nation and customs of their country. (But they must not tell the name of their country).
- The others will guess where the masked one comes from, students can give him or her questions.
- They will remove their masks and will tell the name of the country where he or she comes from. If somebody gave the correct name of the country, he takes the role of the presenter.
- All the students take their turns.
EVALUATION:
All people in the world have something in common. We share one thing - our planet Earth. After presentation it could be good to discuss which nationalities students have chosen more often than the other ones and which facts about them are important in some way for the students and which are irrelevant.
TOPIC:
The Game
MOTIVATION:
Mutual help among nations at completing tasks of work Each nation (race) has different qualities which they can use for the co-operation.
PREPARATION:
The scarf for binding legs, soft material balls: 4 yellow, 4 red, 4 blue, stopwatch, 3 scarves for covering eyes.
RULES:
- The children are divided into groups. In each group there will be 6 players. Each group is playing alone, the others are watching.
- The first is group A (6 players), each player will draw one card with a nationality and functions.
- Nationality - a white man, an Afro-American, a Romany, a Chinese man, an Indian, a half-breed. Functions - 3 collectors - they have the covered eyes, they collect balls. 3 navigators -they navigate the collectors.
- In each group the players will be divided into pairs (one navigator and one collector). In this pair the players will tie one leg with the leg of the other player. The collector will cover his eyes.
- A starting line must be set. All the balls will be thrown on the whole surface of the playing field. There will be some desks on the playing field like obstacles.
- Each pair will choose the colour they will collect.
- The time limit is fixed and the first pair will come to the playing field and they will collect the balls of their colour. The navigator will navigate and bring the collector towards the balls. When the balls of the chosen colour are all collected, they will go back behind the starting line. Then the second pair will come to the playing field to collect their balls. Afterwards the third pair. When all the balls are collected, the stopwatch will show the time. Then the other 6 players of group B come. Then the group C.
EVALUATION:
The group which has the shortest time is the winner.
AIM:
DO WE KNOW EACH OTHER? Getting information about people of different nationalities and races.
AGE:
13-14 years
PREPARATION:
This involves the home preparation. Kids should collect as much information about the nations, ethnic groups living all over the world as possible. Teacher prepares 4 pieces of paper with the names of presented people. The information should concern geographical facts, culture,education, religion.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS:
Four groups with max. 5 pupils.
DURATION:
One hour or more depending on the amount of facts which the group presents.
RULES:
Each group chooses people who will be presented. They can be e.g. the Indians, Eskimos, Africans,... The game can be demonstrated in different ways - it can be interpreted as a theatre exercise, a scene, a chat, an interview,... Children should aim at typical manners, lifestyle, traditions, indirect physical descriptions,...
(Other possibility - one group presents the chosen nation and the others try to guess who they mean).
EVALUATION:
The group which shows the greatest knowledge about the chosen nation is the winner and is defined by the teacher.
AIM:
March of solidarity. Students learn how important it is to help other people in many different ways.
AGE:
10 - 12
DURATION:
30 - 45 minutes
PREPARATION:
The plan of the game: the map of the world with individual fields.
RULES:
Each player has one own statuette and he starts at different place in Europe, Asia, America. All the players have to get to one common place in Australia. The first and fastest player is the winner. When a player rolls a six on a six-sided dice, he will take one card and will complete the instructions written on the card.
Cards:
- You have adopted a child with different colour of skin - (+5)
- You have worked with foreigners - (+1)
- You have received a delegation from the Far East - (+4)
- You have sent money for children afflicted with hunger - (+3)
- You have posted a benefit for people afflicted with floods - (+2)
- You didn't help anyone - (-1)
You may create some other new cards.
EVALUATION:
The winner is the one who comes first.
TOPIC:
WHO WILL SURVIVE? - we must help each other, setting up the important things for the group - co-operation in the team of different individuals.
AGE:
13 -14
DURATION:
one hour
NUMBER OF STUDENTS:
a team of 10 students (it depends on how many students there are in the class)
PREPARATION:
cards with the syllabus for the individual days information about the people in the group - cards with names of different nationalities for students.
DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:
A group of people of different nationalities goes to the jungle with very little food and water. They have to get over many obstacles in the nature. They have to complete tasks set for each day. It will last 8 days. The purpose of the game is to build a cooperating team.
The students are given the instructions for the first day - they prepare the activity and after a given time (about 5 minutes)they start to present their ideas - each of them should express his own ideas about the problem, explain the reasons for the solution and after all make a compromise for the best idea.
Then the second, the third...day comes.
Plan for the stay in the jungle:
1st day - They have to find a suitable place and build a hut.
2nd day - Find a name of a tribe, tribal anthem and draw a tribal flag.
3rd day - The resources of food and drinks are gone and they have to cooperate in looking for food.
4th day - Resting day.
5th day - A disaster. They are attacked by a foreign tribe. They have to defend their territory.
6th day - They receive a map marking a treasure, which they have to find.
7th day - They make presents for new friends.
8th day - Removing the camp + leaving.
ASSESSMENT:
Teacher and students should speak about the reasons given in the game, about the meaning of friendship and adaptability in extreme living conditions, students could give examples from their own experiences or from books, films,...
Other suggestion:
There are two groups and they should present their ideas one by one, starting both with the first day, then they come to the other days.
